These are some books I bought this year and I think they're worth reading:
1. Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor
2. The Way West by A.B. Guthrie
3. Stories an anthology edited by Neil Gaiman & Al Sarrantonio
4. Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
(It's in a list, I can't get why it was banned, it doesn't offend anything, minor sexual scene (which even doesn't involve any kisses), minor fight. Well but obviously not the kind of book you tell for your children, you want them to grow nice don't you?)
5. Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
6. Catatan Seorang Demonstran (Annotations of A Demonstrator) by Soe Hok Gie
number 1 & 5 are children books but you can really enjoy, they're too sober for kids anyway.
I bought a LOT of books this year but just finished some. Among the disappointing ones is The Wind-up Bird Chronicle. Te book is not bad, it's just not my kind of books. It is critically acclaimed but I really want to get rid of the book. But I can't just dump it anywhere and some kids pick up and read it, those pure little minds. The book belongs to the literary community, or maybe just everyone smarter than me. I just don't like it, no matter how good. I mean, vegetables are good, but many people don't like it.
I'm disappointed with the book, when I finished and think about what I get from it, nothing's good, did it expand my mind? but to what extent? I feel haunted and almost claustrophobic and paralyzed and tricked. Some people said, that is what makes a book is good, the emotional, psychological fight you have during reading, how it requires you to look deeper beyond, how it took you away, and left you confused? Call me dumb but I don't like it anyway. I haven't got to the level of loving abstract dark things, and maybe never. I do love this May Kasahara girl, the only joy.
Now I have this pile of books haven't read. Nearly a Dozen. I don't know where to start :)
haha bin, if you got mentally disturbed by reading Murakami's book then it showed you 'got the point'.
ReplyDeleteJust asking, if you really REALLy don't want it, then can I...... have it??? Of course I'll do something in return!!
